New Owners Looking to Sell Former RBI Construction Group Titles

first_imgShortly after Reed Business Information announced in April that that it was shuttering 23 magazine brands, former group publishers Tony Mancini and Rick Blesi formed a company called MB Media and in May acquired the 13 brands published within RBI’s Construction Media Group. Now, a little over a month later, MB Media is actively looking for a buyer for the group, FOLIO: has learned.According to sources, Mancini and Blesi have “very aggressively” been searching either for a buyer or an angel investor and have already talked to several media companies. Cygnus Publishing president Mike Martin confirmed that Cygnus (whichpublishes several brands in the construction market) had been approached by MB Media and that the company agreed to take an initial look atthose properties. Those conversations, however, have so far been“informal,” Martin says.”They were probably more or less given these products with no working capital and no infrastructure, and now they’re finding they don’t have the resources to actually operate these products,” says one b-to-b publishing CEO who does not wish to be identified. A number of other trade publishers that have construction-related brands within their portfolios could also be potential suitors. When contacted byFOLIO:, representatives at Hanley Wood, McGraw-Hill Construction andtrucking/construction publisher Randall-Reilly all declined to comment. One source, who wishes to remain anonymous, says Mancini and Blesi are shopping the brands together as a unit and requested that final offers from interested parties be submitted by the first week in June. Another source says the men are asking to remain with the properties, even if they wind up under new management. Whether or not any offers were submitted was not immediately clear. Mancini, who serves as MB Media’s CEO, did not immediately return requests for comment. MB Media is made up of Building Design+Construction, Custom Builder, Construction Equipment, Housing Giants, Professional Builder, Professional Remodeler, Construction Bulletin, SpecCheck, BDCnetwork.com, LogInAndLearn.com, VisibleCity.com, ConstructionEquipment.com, and HousingZone.com.Not the First Turnaround SaleLast month, Dan Hogan, who acquired HOTELS and Foodservice Equipment and Supplies after they shut down, sold HOTELS to Chicago-based Marketing & Technology Group. Hogan, who had served as publisher of HOTELS under RBI, is said to have passed ownership of Foodservice Equipment and Supplies to a former colleague (a source says Hogan “purchased” the magazine on behalf of that colleague). Hogan at the time did not return an e-mail seeking comment.Seperately, newly-formed CFE Media LLC (which acquired Control Engineering, Consulting-Specifying Engineer and Plant Engineering after RBI shut them down) and Peerless Media (acquired Logistics Management, Modern Materials Handling, Supply Chain Management Review and Material Handling Product News) have established partnerships with RBI’s marketing data services arm Mardev-DM2 to manage their subscriber lists.last_img read more

JK Rowling under fire Why fans are not pleased over Albus Dumbledores

first_imgFacebook / Harry PotterFans of JK Rowling are not happy after it was revealed that Albus Dumbledore was, in fact, a gay.As earlier reported, JK Rowling talked about Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald in a Blu-Ray feature of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. In the piece, the British author stated that they [Dumbledore and Grindelwald] were in an intense relationship adding, “But as happens in any relationship, gay or straight or whatever label we want to put on it, one never knows, really, what the other person is feeling.”JK Rowling further added that she is less interested in the sexual side of Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald’s relationship but even believes that there was some sexual dimension to the relationship.”I am in the sense of the emotions they felt for each other, which ultimately is the most fascinating thing about all human relationships.”After this news surfaced, several fans of Harry Potter world took to Twitter and other social media handles to share their disdain towards this revelation. There are several who are apparently not pleased that Rowling is exploring this tangent of Albus Dumbledore’s sexuality so late. One Twitter user posted, “I love Harry Potter so much but JK’s blatant (and failing) attempts to make Dumbledore any gayer without actually having the guts or motive to actually write it… Smh, making a character gay to seem woke or give them more depth… Sloppy, Rowling.” JK RowlingReutersWhile the other stated, “jk Rowling reappearing every 2 months to say something literally no one asked about is me adding more random details to my essay to up my word count.”Acclaimed writer-director Hazel Hayes compared this announcement with James Cameron’s Avatar movie sequels. As per Hayes, just like Avatar sequels, no one asked for this.As mentioned already, Albus Dumbledore’s sexuality is not mentioned in the Harry Potter books and the adapted movies. At the same time, there were speculations that in Fantastic Beasts movie series, we will get to see Dumbledore’s intense sexual relationship drama with Gellert Grindelwald, but as it turned out, it was not touched in detail. Fans are hoping that with Fantastic Beasts 3, JK Rowling would try to cover this area as well.last_img read more

Liam Plunkett puts England back into ascendancy in World Cup final

first_imgTwitter/Cricket World CupJust when New Zealand started looking dangerously assured of posting a big first-innings score, their middle-overs specialist Liam Plunkett pulled them back by delivering two big blows. First, he dismissed the captain and best batsman in Kiwi side Kane Williamson who was looking in good form and striking the ball nicely. What worked for Plunkett against the Black Caps captain was a cross seam delivery that bounced a bit extra and got the outside edge of Williamson’s wicket as the latter tried to play a drive. Then, Plunkett added to the woes of New Zealand by picking up the wicket of well-set Henry Nicholls. He had just completed his fifty and was also looking on his way to a good score but a fullish delivery took the inside-edge and clipped the leg-stump. Williamson was out for 30 and Nicholls got 55. New Zealand now are 123/3 after 29 overs. The responsibility to take the Kiwis to a good score lies on the shoulders of Ross Taylor and Tom Latham. While the former has a lot of experience, the latter is also a very capable batsman.last_img read more

And ahead of their formal split, Ku Hye Sun has reportedly shared a set of text messages exchanged between her and Ahn Jae Hyun about their impending divorce.Ku Hye Sun does not seem to be taking the news of her divorce very well, the actress reportedly took to Instagram to reveal that her husband Ahn Jae Hyun wanted a divorce. It looks like Ku Hye Sun wasn’t satisfied with just acknowledging that her husband wanted a divorce, she went one step further and posted what appear to be screenshots of a text message conversation between the two spouses. The conversation, which is cut off at parts, seems to reveal that Ahn Jae Hyun and Ku Hye Sun have already agreed to a divorce. Throughout the text messages, Ahn Jae Hyun speaks to Ku Hye Sun in formal speech, while Ku Hye Sun speaks to Ahn Jae Hyun in informal speech (banmal).A: I already told the “New Journey to the West” staff the day before yesterday that I’ll be releasing the [divorce] agreement and the press statement that you gave me three days ago next week, and I’m currently in the process of discussing it with [the “New Journey to the West” staff]. Ku Hye Sun: Not next week. Depending on how my mom’s doing. Ku Hye SunKu Hye Sun Official Instagram (goohyesun_84)Ku Hye Sun: To me, “New Journey to the West” isn’t more important than how my mom’s doing.A: We’ve already come to an agreement, and all that’s left is the paperwork. Domestic fuel price strategic concerns weigh on India as Iran oil waiver

first_imgThe US decision to end a waiver to India and other countries on Iran oil imports is threatening to drive domestic fuel prices up. ReutersThe US has offered to make available crude at concessional terms as India faces runaway fuel price rise when trade with Iran stops as the waiver on oil imports granted to India ends on May 2. However, there is cause for concern that any concession deal could come with strings attached affecting India’s strategic interests involving Iran and Russia.International crude prices have spiked after news emerged of US decision to end the waiver from Iran trade sanctions given to oil imports to India, China, South Korea and Turkey emerged. China and Turkey have taken a defiant stand but India has agreed to stop buying Iranian oil. International crude price has hit a recent high of $74 per barrel and there is a threat that it could go even higher. India’s domestic fuel prices are linked to the international oil price and an increase in international crude price could push up the fuel price and hurt Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s re-election bid in the ongoing general election. The US has strong strategic ties with the Persian Gulf states of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that view Iran as a regional rival. India, however, has long-standing strategic relations with Iran and cannot afford to alienate the nation, which provides the only corridor for stable access to Afghanistan and Central Asian nations like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. India developed Iran’s Chabahar port as a counterweight to Chinese-controlled Gwadar port in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. The port is a key hub of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is part of China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative with economic and geostrategic ramifications. An employee fills diesel in a public bus at a fuel station in Kolkata. The spike in international oil prices has threatened a runaway increase in India’s domestic fuel prices.ReutersBeyond trade, New Delhi considers ties with Teheran as important for containing geopolitical strategies of Islamabad and Beijing. Gwadar port is considered to be part of China’s ‘String of Pearls’, a network of ports intended for Chinese power projection in the Indian Ocean Region. It is not clear whether the US would meet India’s expectation of buying oil under the same lenient terms as Iran provided including a 60-day credit period. Washington has apparently asked Riyadh and Abu Dhabi to help India meet the shortfall with the cancellation of the deal with Teheran. The US is also unhappy about India’s strong defence ties with Russia. India is one of the largest arms importers from Russia and there are ongoing discussions for buying more arms from Russia. US arms manufacturers are direct competitors to Russian arms makers and they have always envied India’s cosy relationship with Russians. Though India is in talks with the US manufacturers for buying more military equipment, the slow progress has been frustrating for them. Any deal with the US for oil at concessional terms could provide US arms makers leverage in trade talks.last_img read more

PM Hasina asks BGB to strictly maintain discipline

first_imgPrime minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday hoped that the members of Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) will work for the development of the country maintaining their discipline strictly.”I always want this force (BGB) to maintain its discipline strictly and work for the development of the country,” she said. The prime minister said this while addressing the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Day 2017 at its Peelkhana headquarters in the city.Sheikh Hasina said the loyalty and trustworthiness among the BGB members are above all questions. “I believe that the mutual confidence, respect, discipline, humanity and above all mutual sympathy among the officers and members will strengthen the bonding of this force,” she said. The prime minister asked the BGB members to discharge their duties with patriotism, honesty and in a disciplined manner. She also mentioned that BGB is the ‘resort of confidence’ for the nation when it comes to safeguarding the border, maintaining internal law and order and tackling manmade and social calamities. She recalled the destructive politics and activities, including arson attacks by the BNP-Jamaat clique, during the last general election, and praised the BGB members for their extraordinary efforts to maintain the law-and-order situation in the country.Describing the various development programmes taken by her government for the welfare of the BGB and its members, the PM said the government’s support and assistance will continue for the development of this force. The prime minister said helicopters will be provided to the BGB soon for travelling to remote areas across the borders by its members and perform their duties.Highlighting the glorious role of the then EPR members during the Liberation War in 1971, the prime minister said they had put up a strong resistance against the Pakistani forces in the early hours of the Liberation War responding to the call of Bangabandhu. She said the EPR members were the first who had transmitted Bangabandhu’s proclamation of Independence across the country through their wireless system for which Subedar Major Showkat Ali along with his four colleagues were martyred.Earlier, on her arrival at BGB headquarters, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan and director general of BGB major general Abul Hossain Ahmed received the prime minister. On the occasion, an attractive parade was arranged at Bir Uttam Anwar Hossain Parade Ground at the BGB headquarters. The prime minister inspected the parade and took salute.Cabinet members, PM’s advisers, parliament members, the chiefs of the three services, diplomats and high civil and military officials were present. The prime minister handed over BGB Medal (BGBM), President Border Guard Medal (PBGM), BGB Medal-Service (BGBMS) and PBGM-Service (PBGMS) to 51 BGB members for their courageous and brilliant contributions to various activities of the BGB.The prime minister witnessed the attractive drills of the BGB during the parade.A group of representatives led by Indian Border Security Force director general Krishan Kumar Sharma and another group of representatives headed by police commander of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police Brigadier General Myint Toe witnessed the parade.last_img read more

Running Hamsters Can Power Nano Devices Video

first_img(PhysOrg.com) — Among the vast number of untapped energy sources are finger taps, heartbeats, and even hamsters running on exercise wheels. In a recent study, researchers from Georgia Tech have shown that when hamsters run or scratch themselves – even if they do so erratically – the motions can drive a nanogenerator that produces an electric current. Video: Running hamster generate energyJoin PhysOrg.com on Facebook Many motions can cause the plastic to move. For instance, a hamster wearing a small jacket attached to the generator could harvest energy from the rodent’s movements as it runs and scratches. The researchers also attached the nanogenerator to a person’s index finger, and when the finger tapped on a hard surface, the generator could harvest that biomechanical energy. The researchers hope to increase the generator’s power by adding more piezoelectric wires. If the team could increase the nanogenerator’s power output so that it could generate about one microwatt, the device could power implantable nanosensors that require a permanent power supply. These nanosensors, which perform tasks such as detecting pathogens or cancer proteins, could be powered by the patient’s own biomotions, eliminating the need for the sensors to be surgically replaced. In other applications, the generator could be woven into the fabric of a human jacket to harvest energy for powering portable electronic devices.© 2009 PhysOrg.com Explore further This document is subject to copyright. Apart from any fair dealing for the purpose of private study or research, no part may be reproduced without the written permission. The content is provided for information purposes only. The electricity generated from such tiny, irregular biomotions is currently quite low (about one nanowatt), but Zhong Lin Wang, a professor of materials science and engineering at Georgia Tech, predicts that power generation can be increased to drive some tiny nano-sized devices. Wang and his colleagues have published their study in a recent issue of Nano Letters. While other generators can harvest biomechanical energy from regular motions at a specific frequency, the Georgia Tech team’s generator is the first that can harvest small, irregular motions. Most biomotions – such as walking, stretching, and a heart beating – are irregular movements.Taking advantage of the piezoelectric effect, the team’s nanogenerator consists of a series of zinc-oxide nanowires mounted on a flexible plastic surface. When the plastic bends, the wires also bend, creating an electric potential that drives a current through the wires to an external electrical circuit. center_img Researchers at Georgia Tech have designed a nanogenerator that can harvest irregular biomotions, such as the erratic movements of a hamster running.
