Cuban fined, deported for illegal entry

first_imgA Cuban was fined and deported for illegally entering Guyana.Ana Ragla Ranirez admitted to the charge when it was read to her by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.The 33-year-old woman accepted the charge which stated that she entered Guyana on March 29, 2018, and was about to depart on September 25, 2018, without presenting herself to the nearest immigration officer.According to facts presented to the court, on September 25, while the woman was en route to Georgetown from Lethem, she was intercepted by Police, who asked her to produce her travel documents.It was revealed that upon checking her passport, Police ranks observed that she left and returned to the country illegally.Further, the woman spent six months in Brazil where she worked before returning through an illegal port of entry.She was arrested and taken to the CID headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown and was charged.She was fined $40,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in her serving four weeks in prison. She will be deported to Cuba.last_img
