Hesston was seeded No. 3, Wellington No. 7.  They then lost to Haley & Herbst of Valley Center 8-3 before losing their final match to Cunning and Whiteside of Andover Central 8-0.Wellington Head Coach Allen Keller’s comments:Tyler and Brock’s wins over the Wichita Independent players and Brock’s win over Andover were quality wins and shows what they both are capable of.After taking tough losses in the first round, they both settled in and played some very fine tennis. Wellington doesn’t beat anyone from Independent very often and to take two wins in one day was special.Likewise, after a bruising loss to the 2013 3A State Doubles Champs in the first round, Dutch and Avery collected themselves and beat a very good Andover team in the consolation round in a very close match.  Both players executed key shot making ability at crucial times during pressure situations in that match to secure the win.It was good to see the concentration and focus it takes to make that happen.  The surprise of the day was Jon Ryberg and Will Long playing the caliber of tennis they did.  Together for the first time, they played remarkably well in their quality win over Hesston.•••••Wellington Middle Schoolers split The WMS boys’ tennis team traveled to Winfield on Tuesday, April 8 and split with the host 9-9.  Winners include: Singles – Grey Hatfield, Braden Buresh, Jared Oathout, Logan Jones, Ian Groom, Avery Rademacher and Ty Wilson.  Doubles – Rademacher/Wilson and Jones/Groom.Also, WMS tennis participated in the Ark City Invitational yesterday.  Grey Hatfield placed second in No. 2 singles and Cade Phelps and Jaden Adams placed third in No. 1 doubles. The team will travel to El Dorado on Monday.•••••Schedule for the next five days:•Wellington baseball/softball teams travel to Andale.•Some Wellington track athletes are at Wichita State University.•Wellington golfers are headed to the Terradyne Golf Club hosted by Andover Central at 3 p.m. on Monday.•Wellington boys tennis team is at Wichita Collegiate at 3 p.m.Follow us on Twitter. by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Wellington varsity baseball teams split and the Wellington girls softball team swept at Augusta… Wellington boys tennis team played in Augusta… Schedule for the rest of weekend and Monday…•••••Wellington boys play exciting gamesThe Crusader baseball team split with Augusta in two exciting ballgames.
