Mr. James Momoh, an American-based Liberian, Tuesday, May 27, launched a program to create all the necessary awareness about the deadly diabetes sickness.Mr. Momoh recently returned to Liberia after completed his studies including the one on diabetes in the U.S. The awareness, which was launched at the newly established diabetes ‘Pervocate Center’ on Front Street in Monrovia, according to Mr. Momoh, is to allow people suspected of living with the health condition to do their test.Diabetes, he said, is not about testing, but education through awareness, “this is why the testing center on Front Street Center was set up to also serve as a resource center.”To add up to his effort of relieving Liberians from the disease, Mr. Momoh said an American-based healthcare company has introduced a new pharmaceutical product to detect symptoms of diabetes in human body. The product, “Perfect 3”, has also been introduced in Liberia through the company’s focal person—who is the chief executive officer (CEO) and president, Mr. Momoh. The former Liberian photojournalist, Mr. Momoh lives in America, but presently in the country to fulfill his dream of helping Liberians. He is working with a few other Liberians selected to use the device. Perfect 3 is being tested on people who have diabetes in various communities across the country.Perfect 3 is a simple machine, which if properly established in Liberia, could be used by every household.According to him, the device would be spread in every corner of Liberia at a minimum cost. He described it as a very accessible piece of equipment that could be used by any individual; whether they were a medical practitioner or not.“My people’s health is important to me, this is the reason I brought this important device to the country,” Mr. Momoh declared. The healthcare company that produces the device is based in New York. According to Mr. Momoh, it intends to help Liberians by making available this new and a simple piece of technology to test people’s sugar content for Diabetes; one of the leading causes of death globally.Diabetes is usually a lifelong (chronic) disease in which there are high levels of sugar in the blood.Perfect 3 is made for people suffering from diabetes mellitus. It has blood glucose monitoring system that produces accurate results in only six seconds. This is done through the quantitative measurement of glucose in fresh capillary blood from the finger and forearm. The alternative site testing (on the forearm) in this system can only be used during steady-state blood glucose conditions. Most of the journalists who attended Tuesday’s ceremony on Front Street were themselves tested for symptom of the disease. Few of them were identified as being diabetic and were provided the necessary counseling.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)
Indian cricket superstar has shared screen space with wife Sakshi in a television commercial for a popular toothpaste brand. In a video available online, Dhoni can be seen talking about the importance of inner strength during trying times in life. The television commercial shows Dhoni dressed in a casual green t-shit and spending quality time with his wife. Dhoni then recollects the time during which he had to be away on national duty despite the birth of his daughter, Ziva Dhoni.”Jab Ziva hui thi, I couldn’t be there. It was more important at the time that I stayed back with the team. I just smiled and got ready for the job at hand,” Dhoni said referring to India’s 2015 World Cup campaign in Australia. Dhoni led Team India to the semi-final of the quadrennial tournament wherein India were beaten by the eventual world champions.Dhoni then added that having a smile on his face when there is a responsibility to be taken care of is his “inner strength”, which seems to be the tagline of the toothpaste brand.Dhoni will be gearing up to feature in his fourth World Cup appearance when the global cricketing spectacle kickstarts in England and Wales on May 30. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman, who had faced a lot of flak over his dip in batting form last year, had begun the World Cup year with a bang, scoring three back-to-back hal-centuries in India’s historic 2-1 ODI series win in Australia.Dhoni carried the form to New Zealand wherein he made handy contribution to the team’s cause in a five-match ODI and a three-match T20I series.advertisementHowever, Dhoni was once again under the pump after the recently-concluded first T20I between India and Australia in Visakhapatnam as he struggled to get his timing right on a sluggish wicket.Dhoni was unable to give the Indian innings the much-needed impetus towards the end overs as he managed just 29 runs from 37 balls. India finished with a sub-par total of 126 runs on the board. Australia gunned down the total despite India bowlers holding their nerves and taking the match into the final over.Jasprit Bumrah came up with death-bowling masterclass, conceding just two runs and picking up two wickets in the penultimate over of Australia’s run chase. However, Jhye Richardson and Pat Cummins thrived under pressure and took the visitors past the finish line after collecting 14 runs off the final over from Umesh Yadav.India face a must-win situation when they face Australia in the second T20I in Bengaluru on Wednesday, February 27.Also Read | No talks with government as yet on India-Pak World Cup tie, says BCCI officialAlso Read | Jasprit Bumrah a class act, has a great cricketing brain: Pat Cummins

Taking a further step towards a softer Brexit, Keir Starmer has indicated his backing for the free movement of workers as part of the UK’s future relationship with the EU. The Shadow Brexit Secretary has also repeated his view that an Irish ‘backstop’ is now “inevitable” in any Brexit deal.In an interview with Newsnight on Monday evening, Starmer said: “We’re going to need a backstop. Do we have concerns about the backstop? Yes. Do we accept the backstop is inevitable? Yes. And actually, the focus is on that political declaration and answering the question, ‘what should the future relationship with the EU actually look like?’.”But Jeremy Corbyn, as he told Sky and the BBC last week, has agreed with the Prime Minister that the inability to unilaterally withdraw from the backstop arrangement is unacceptable. Theresa May is currently trying to amend the provision, which keeps the Irish border open in the event no trade deal is struck during the transition period.Starmer went on to express a softer position on the question of free movement, one of the four freedoms in the European single market, which Labour vowed to end in its 2017 manifesto. Asked whether Labour would back the ‘Norway Plus’ model, which offers free movement to EU workers but not citizens, Starmer replied: “That would have to be explored.”He added: “I think most people would agree that if somebody is coming to do a job, and it needs to be done, and it’s been advertised locally beforehand with nobody able to do it, then most people say ‘I would accept that’. Most people say that if this is about family reunification… ‘that’s something I can accept’.“And most people, I think, would say if somebody wants to come here to study, and it’s genuine, then of course please come and study. In fact, let’s celebrate that. I actually think we get stuck on the freedom of movement discussion too early.”Shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Keir Starmer tells Newsnight the UK should “explore” allowing qualified free movement of workers from the EU after Brexit https://t.co/[email protected] | #newsnight | @Keir_Starmer pic.twitter.com/jNHI6P2sae— BBC Newsnight (@BBCNewsnight) February 4, 2019 Tags:Labour /Jeremy Corbyn /Free Movement /Keir Starmer /Brexit /Backstop /
