About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say Arsenal boss Emery blasts Xhaka critics: We need him there!by Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveArsenal boss Unai Emery insists Granit Xhaka deserves praise for filling in at centre-half.Ahead of their clash with Burnley, Emery was asked whether he was overplaying fit-again Laurent Koscielny. He replied, “But I trust him and we have solutions for who can play in this position. For example, I read a little criticism for our midfielders like Xhaka playing centre back, but I am very happy with him because his mentality is a very big mentality. He helped us, and he played left back too sometimes and I think he played well. This reason, for me, is that I trust in another player and tomorrow we are going to play with the first 11 and other players in the bench with our performance.”I think we’re in a good position to play against Burnley. With respect, but with believing in our work, in our possibilities in other players to play, like a centre back or a midfielder. Above all, I think the mentality is a very big mentality to help us. We have the players and they are playing out of position, like Xhaka and Lichtsteiner last week at Southampton.”

According to Robertson, following the assessment, STARS made the decision to replace the entire fleet by 2022.Robertson says the process of renewing the fleet will be a combination of government contributions, selling the old fleet, and starting a capital campaign. The target of the campaign is $4 million for the Grande Prairie base, with Shell Canada already donating $500,000.Currently, STARS operates an Airbus BK117 helicopter which will be replaced by an Airbus H145 helicopter.STARS is an organization funded by individual donors, service groups, corporate donors and government contributions which provides rapid and specialized emergency care and transportation for critically ill and injured patients across Western Canada. For more information on STARS and to make a donation, you can visit stars.ca. GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. – STARS Air Ambulance is seeking support to renew its aging helicopter fleet.STARS President and CEO, Andrea Robertson, says they are using the same helicopter fleet since starting operations in 1985 and launched an independent assessment to start looking at renewing the fleet.“We started STARS in 1985, and as it turns out, we’ve been flying the same aircraft for that entire period of time. We knew they were getting old, so we got some independent assessments done, which told us they are pretty much getting to be at end of life.”
Turin (Italy): Cristiano Ronaldo made a mockery of Atletico Madrid’s vaunted defense, and then mocked its coach as well. Ronaldo scored a hat trick against the normally resilient Spanish side to send Juventus into the Champions League quarterfinals with a 3-0 win as the Bianconeri fought back from a two-goal first-leg defeat. The former Real Madrid player outjumped Atletico’s defenders to score a header in each half and then converted a late penalty for his first hat trick since joining Juventus in the summer and just when they needed it most. Also Read – Dhoni, Paes spotted playing football together He celebrated at the final whistle by mimicking the obscene gesture Atletico coach Diego Simeone made after the Spanish side’s second goal in the first leg having the final say against a rival he so often defeated as a Real Madrid player. Simeone was fined 20,000 euros ( 22,500) by UEFA for improper conduct and it remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will face a similar punishment. It was Ronaldo’s eighth hat trick in the Champions League, moving him level with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and demonstrating why Juventus paid Real Madrid 112 million euros (then 131.5 million) for the Portugal star who has dominated the competition in recent years. Also Read – Andy Murray to make Grand Slam return at Australian Open It was the first time Juventus came back from a two-goal defeat in the first leg. “Maybe that’s why Juventus signed me,” Ronaldo said. “To help it do things that it had never done before. This result is a great push for the future, we’re strong and we showed it.” The 34-year-old Ronaldo has won the Champions League five times, including in four of the last five seasons. Without him, Madrid was eliminated by Ajax last week. However, Ronaldo had only scored one goal in the competition for Juventus until Tuesday. “It would have been strange if Ronaldo’s Champions League season ended with only one goal,” Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said. “Juventus signed him for nights like this and tonight he made the difference.” For Atletico, it was more heartache in the competition in the year the final is being held in its Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and more pain caused by Ronaldo. While at Madrid, Ronaldo helped beat Atletico in two Champions League finals. He has also now scored 25 goals against Atletico in his career. “He’s the best in the world,” Simeone said. “We suffered, as happened to them in the first leg. They’re through and that’s right. They deserved it … Maybe I didn’t manage to transmit to my players what we needed.” Juventus thought it had taken the lead less than three minutes into the game but VAR confirmed that Ronaldo had fouled Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak before Giorgio Chiellini fired in the rebound. Italy forward Federico Bernardeschi was handed a start instead of Paulo Dybala for Juventus, and he responded by putting in a cross from the left for Ronaldo to head in at the far post in the 27th minute. Bernardeschi also had several chances to extend Juve’s lead notably with an audacious overhead kick in the 35th minute which flew narrowly over. Ronaldo went close again shortly before halftime when he again outjumped everyone but headed Leonardo Spinazzola’s cross wide of the right post. Ronaldo did get the second goal three minutes after the break. Joao Cancelo put in a cross from the right and although Oblak clawed Ronaldo’s header out from under his crossbar, goal-line technology confirmed the ball had crossed the line. Juventus went all out attack and got the decisive third goal four minutes from time. Bernardeschi was nudged over in the penalty area and Ronaldo converted the resulting spot kick to send the home fans wild. In another fixture, Manchester City humiliated Schalke 7-0 to win the Champions League knockout stage tie 10-2 on aggregate and claim a berth in the quarterfinals. Sergio “Kun” Agüero had a brace for the hosts at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium late on Tuesday. Already leading 3-2 after the first leg in Gelsenkirchen, City dominated from the start of the contest and virtually all of the action was in front of visiting goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann. Schalke coach Dominico Tedesco fielded an attack-oriented side, but they struggled to find any gaps in the City defence and left themselves vulnerable. City threatened in the 13th minute, when Kyle Walker’s deep pass found Raheem Sterling, who advanced toward the goal and left the ball for Agüero, whose strike hit the post. Twenty minutes later, City’s Bernardo Silva went down in the area after being brushed by defender Jeffrey Bruma and referee Clement Turpin pointed to the spot. Though the penalty looked soft, Turpin felt no need to consult VAR and Agüero coolly converted in the 35th minute to give City a two-goal overall lead. The Argentine international needed just three minutes to get his second of the night, taking a pass from Sterling and slipping the ball under Fährmann. With Schalke forced to press forward, City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko got the ball to a wide-open Leroy Sane and the German scored against his former club to make it 3-0 on the night and a daunting 6-2 overall in the 42nd minute. City, despite the more-than-comfortable lead, did not let up in the second half and scored twice in the opening 10 minutes after the re-start. The first, by Sane, was disallowed for an offside. Sterling’s goal in the 56th minute looked set to suffer the same fate until VAR confirmed that all of the attacking players were onside. Even as City slowed the pace, the nightmare continued for Schalke. Bernardo Silva scored from inside the box in the 71st minute, seven minutes before Phil Foden made it 6-0 (9-2) with a great assist from Sane. Gabriel Jesus delivered the final blow with six minutes left. City, the Premier League holders, are headed to the Champions League quarterfinals for the second consecutive year.
Banda (UP): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday promised to work “in mission mode” to rid Bundelhand of its water scarcity, while also claiming that the opposition will be reduced to ‘zero battey sannata’ in the Lok Sabha polls.”Opposition leaders are going with long faces after half of the polling is over as they know the outcome,” he said at a public meeting here in Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. “The opposition will get ‘zero battey sannata’,” he added, playing on the name of a Hindi movie, ‘Nil Battey Sannata’, which means zero divided by zero – a slang for nothing. Also Read – Uddhav bats for ‘Sena CM’Stating that he understands well the problem of acute water scarcity in the region, which is also responsible for its backwardness, the prime minister said it will be handled “in mission mode”. “I feel the struggle for water faced by my sisters. This challenge also has been accepted by your chowkidar,” said Modi. He promised to start work to provide water to the parched region “in mission mode” within a month after the announcement of the election result, if they return “the Modi government” to the power again. He said he would get women rid of water scarcity just like he freed them from smoke by providing LPG connections and the personal humiliation by providing toilets. Also Read – Farooq demands unconditional release of all detainees in J&KHe also promised to establish a ‘Jal Shakti Mantralaya’ to deal with the country-wide problem of water scarcity by reviving rivers. If voted to power, his next government would make an all out effort to ensure that water reaches people though all available means just like, he said, his government provided electricity to all villages in the last five years. Accusing the previous governments of “doing selfish politics”, the prime minister rued that even the Congress government supported by the SP and BSP kept hundreds of irrigation projects pending. “We have taken up 99 such big projects and most of them are on the verge of completion,” he said, while also referring to his government’s various other work like the Bundelkhand Expressway and the defence corridor projects impacting the region. Jibing at the Opposition, he said all the leaders in the poll fray, despite fielding a small numbwer of candidates are dreaming of becoming prime minister. He said the SP-BSP and the Congress have not told people about any of their schemes for ending terrorism and appear to be afraid of talking about the terrorism. Later in the evening before filing his nomination from Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a mega roadshow in the temple town as thousands lined the streets to take a glimpse of their star candidate. The PM later tweeted that he was “grateful for the warmth and affection” shown by the people of Kashi. As chants of ‘Modi, Modi’ rent the air, the PM’s cavalcade traversed through Assi Ghat, Bhadaini, Sonarpura, Madanpura, Jangambadi, Godowlia before concluding at the Dashashwamedh Ghat, where he performed the evening aarti. Modi began the roadshow by garlanding the statue of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya outside the Banaras Hindu University. He was accompanied by BJP chief Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other top alliance leaders.
Thursday night, the record-setting Golden State Warriors avoided playoff elimination, taking Game 5 of the Western Conference finals from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Reigning MVP Steph Curry had 31 points on 9-of-20 shooting, but questions remain about whether, after suffering a knee injury early in the playoffs, this is the same Curry who laid waste to the league throughout the season and if he can finish digging the Warriors out of a 3-1 series hole.Curry has shot 35 percent from three in eight games since first being injured, far below his regular-season average of 45 percent. Here’s a breakdown of his 3-point shooting relative to the quality of shots (as divined by the NBA’s player-tracking data) he’s taken throughout the season: Compared with his regular-season showing, post-injury Curry has maintained a high volume of shots with comparable shot quality: He’s taken 10.6 3-point attempts per game with average expected value per shot of .97 points, versus. 11.2 and .98 during the regular season.Relative to expectation, however, Curry has been mortal. He isn’t shooting “badly” by NBA standards, but he has been awful by his own. Curry averaged a flabbergasting .38 points above expectation per 3-point attempt in the regular season, but he’s averaged just .08 points per shot above expectation post-injury. Previously, his worst eight-game stretch was .09 and came from Dec. 11 to Jan. 2.The average 3-pointer taken by a Curry teammate this year had an expected value of 1.1 points, and the Warriors shot .09 better than expectation on them. In other words, since returning from injury, Curry has been chucking like his MVP self but has been connecting like any old Warrior. On the one hand, it is probably good news for the Warriors that Curry appears to be getting his usual looks at his usual frequency since his return. On the other hand, any evidence that Curry isn’t really himself is bad news, because the Warriors are in desperate need of some flabbergasting performances if they hope to repeat.
Eric Brunner knows how to perform well for his team, past and present. Just two years ago, the starting Columbus Crew defender was leading the Ohio State men’s soccer team to the 2007 NCAA College Cup National Championship and its winningest season in program history as a senior team captain. Today, the native of Dublin, Ohio prepares with the rest of the black and gold for the CONCACAF Champions League matchup vs. Saprissa of Costa Rica in an 8 p.m. kickoff at Crew Stadium. A Crew victory will advance the team through group play into the quarterfinals of the International Championship League. Between the Champions League and MLS play, the Crew is in the process of completing seven matches in 21 days, and Brunner has done his part. Last Saturday, in MLS play, Columbus (12-4-10) defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy, 2-0, in front of a sell-out crowd to remain at the top of the Eastern Conference and continue its MLS-record home unbeaten streak to 24 matches. En route to the Crew’s eighth shutout of the season, in the 59th minute, Brunner blasted an 80-yard ball down the left side where forward Emilio Renteria ran onto the pass and headed into the penalty area to set up the final goal of the match. “They’re a really good team,” Brunner, who has started 20 games for the Crew in 2009, said. “They’ve had some great results this year and only lost a handful of games this season and we knew they were going to come in tough. We just wanted to out-work them and let the ball do the work on a fast pitch.” Winning matches with a complete team effort has been the name of the game for the defending MLS champions. Columbus Crew coach Robert Warzycha’s plan coming into the final month of regular-season play is making sure his players are well rested and ready to compete when their numbers are called. “We have a very important game against Saprissa,” Warzycha said. “We don’t have a reserve on the team. Everybody here on this club is contributing. We have a very deep squad. I can go with any player and as long as we are playing as a team, we can be very successful.” This game is crucial for both teams. In the Champions League standings in Group C, the Crew (2-2-0) sits in second with six points, while Saprissa (1-2-1) follows in third with four points. Earlier this month, on Sept. 16, the Crew defeated Saprissa on the road 1-0, and look forward to continued success against its group opponent. The 23-year-old Brunner, a former first-team All-Big Ten and NSCAA first-team All-American with the Buckeyes, will consistently have an impact stopping opposing forwards, and as shown over the weekend can make game-changing plays for the offense. The Crew returns to MLS play 7:30 p.m. Saturday against the Seattle Sounders FC at Crew Stadium to complete a four-match home swing.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas says Real Madrid are not the only big club that is interested in signing Nabil Fekir. The 24-year-old France attacker who was jubilant over coming close to signing a deal with Liverpool before the World Cup began, had the move crashed when Lyon declared they had pulled out of a proposed deal.Fakir’s agent, though, has since indicated a transfer could yet be completed, while new Real Madrid head coach Julen Lopetegui is reportedly interested in taking him to the Santiago Bernabeu.Speaking to RT France via FourFourTwo via Fou, Aulas said: “It was expected, at some point, that he could leave for Liverpool.Report: Origi cause Klopp injury concerns George Patchias – September 14, 2019 Divock Origi injury in today’s game against Newcastle is a cause for concern for Jurgen Klopp.Perhaps with one eye on Tuesday’s trip to Italy…“I gave the green light, but things did not happen because they took too long.“Nabil is an exceptional player. The fact that things did not come to fruition with Liverpool aroused the interest of many clubs, not just Real Madrid and their new coach.“Everything is possible. My goal is to make him stay. I hope he will stay, but if he absolutely wants to leave, we will try to find the biggest club in terms of efficiency and size.”Fekir has come off the bench in France’s two World Cup games so far and will be hoping to start their final Group C game against Denmark on Tuesday.
Portugal defender Bruno Alves maintains his team are “not interested” in Germany’s historic elimination from the 2018 World Cup but are rather concentrated on themselves.Germany were shamefully trumped out in the group stages of the Mundial tournament after a 2-0 defeat by Japan on Wednesday afternoon. European champions Portugal, however, finished second in their section to set up a clash with Uruguay in the last 16.But Alves has claimed that “there are no easy games” in the World Cup as Portugal are solely concentrating on what they can make out of the World Cup at this summer’s competition.“We have seen that in this World Cup there are no easy games. Germany going out is another clear indication of that,” Alves told reporters via Sportsmole.Ali Daei wouldn’t be upset if Ronaldo breaks his scoring record Andrew Smyth – September 13, 2019 Iranian legend Ali Daei wouldn’t be upset to lose his record as international football’s all-time record scorer to the “great” Cristiano Ronaldo.“But this doesn’t change the fact that we’re 100% focused on Portugal.“We prepare every day for our games always believing that we can reach the next stage. Whatever happens to other teams is interesting for other people – people who analyse the results – but we’re not interested. We only care about Portugal.”Portugal won one and drew two of their three group matches this summer
The agent of Gianluigi Buffon insists that he is considered to be just as important as Neymar at Paris Saint-GermainThe legendary Italian goalkeeper opted to continue his playing career at PSG for at least another two seasons after leaving Juventus in June. And things got off to a bright start for Buffon in this newest chapter of his career by winning the Trophee des Champions at the weekend in his first ever competitive match for PSG after they thrashed AS Monaco 4-0 at Shenzhen in China.“Starting well is always a good thing in football. Anything can happen, but PSG are a great club for him,” Silvano Martina told RMC Sport, via Football-Italia.“They’re a very good team and they deserved to win the cup, which is always good for your CV.“I went for a coffee with him once and he told me he was happy to retire, before adding that he could’ve done well at another big club for a couple more years.”PSG ultras sent a warning letter to Neymar Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 Brazilian superstar Neymar might play today his first game of the season for Paris Saint-Germain and the team’s ultras have warned him. After 17 years at Juventus, Buffon made the surprise decision to play his club football outside of Italy for the first time in his career at the age of 40.“How did PSG come about? I have a friend there, I sent him a message and he told me to go there right away,” said Martina.“For them, it was as important a deal as that for Neymar. Buffon felt the desire of the French club to have him in their team and he’s very fired up.“It’s as if he’s 10 years younger. They offered a two-year contract, while he only wanted to sign for a year: this proves their honesty. PSG had already wanted him in 2009.”Buffon will get his first taste of Ligue 1 this Sunday in PSG’s first game of the league campaign against Caen at the Parc Des Princes.
